The United States Departments of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS), has a requirement for quantitative Ochratoxin A tests. Ochratoxin A is a naturally occurring mycotoxin produced by several species of Aspergillus. Wet and cool weather conditions from flowering to maturity promotes the infection, which results in scab or head blight in wheat and other grains and commodities. FGIS is moving from ethanol-based test kits to water-based test kits to reduce employee exposure to potentially harmful substances. FGIS uses the test kits in field offices in response to customer requests for FGIS services. The test kits include the substances and consumables required to conduct the test and the vendor will provide all necessary training for employees to conduct the test.
